French Final 2018

By Alex McLachlan

This year’s French Under 19s Final sees the Pessac Kangourous face off against the La Courneuve Flash, in what is shaping up to be a tense affair.

The Kangourous return to the big game, looking for redemption after a single-point loss in the 2017 Final. Pessac are bound to have confidence in their squad, which combines strong team cohesion with slick execution to give opposing teams nightmares.

Their offence in particular has proven potent this year, amassing a staggering 275 points and averaging 34 points per game in the regular season. Of particular impact will be the Kangourous’ running game, with Alexander Fedou and Terence Manigold looking to tear up turf behind a strong offensive line.

However, the Flash’s defense may not be so simple to break down. This staunch outfit, which Kangourous Coach Lippens specifically complimented for their size, have conceded a ridiculously low three touchdowns all season.

When discussing standout players, Coach Mwamba declined to mention any individuals, but instead spoke of the trenches as areas in which the difference can be made. On both side of the ball, the Flash will be looking to capitalize on their aforementioned size advantage to gain the upper hand.

Both Coaches are expecting a physically and mentally taxing game, and this final is sure to provide that. Perhaps the winner will be decided simply by who can execute their game plan more effectively. Either way, it will undoubtedly make for fascinating viewing, showcasing some of Europe’s most elite talent.
